Milwaukee Business Journal: Froedtert & Medical College proceeds with micro hospitals after partner closes

Although Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin’s partner on two planned micro hospitals closed its business, the health care system is proceeding with the facilities in Mequon and Oak Creek.

Froedtert & the Medical College made announcements in May 2018 for Mequon and in September 2018 for Oak Creek that Tandem Hospital Partners of Houston would be the developer and manager of the small hospitals.

“We have discontinued our partnership with Tandem Hospital Partners and have partnered with Covider Health to design the hospitals,” Stephen Schooff, a Froedtert & Medical College spokesman, said Monday in response to a Milwaukee Business Journal inquiry.

Covider Health is based in Dallas, but will not hold an ownership stake in the Milwaukee-area micro hospitals. The arrangement with Tandem Hospital Partners had called for Froedtert Health to lease the buildings.

Each new neighborhood hospital will be owned, operated and staffed by the Froedtert & Medical College of Wisconsin health network, Schooff said.
