03 Nov MKE Business Journal: Exact Sciences hired 400 former Pfizer sales reps to boost Cologuard sales
Exact Sciences Corp. nearly doubled its primary care field sales team to help boost adoption of its Cologuard colorectal cancer screening test, which the company said has grown less than expected due to Covid-19.
The Madison-based cancer screening maker hired and onboarded around 400 former sales representatives from Pfizer Inc. in September, according to Exact Science’s third-quarter earnings report, bringing its total primary care field sales team to more than 850.
The former Pfizer employees previously were selling Cologuard since 2018 through a promotion agreement between Exact Sciences and Pfizer, a multinational pharmaceutical company based in New York City.
“This is an amazing sales team that we have built,” Exact Sciences chairman and CEO Kevin Conroy said Tuesday during the company’s earnings call. “We know the frequency of calling absolutely correlates in a straight line with the frequency of Cologuard test orders, especially among our better customers.”
